Edgefield, SC, is the county seat of Edgefield County, SC. Edgefield County is adjacent to Aiken County, and Edgefield is part of both the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) and the greater Augusta, GA, metropolitan area. Edgefield is approximately 25 miles from Augusta (via U.S. Route 25) and approximately 25 miles from Batesburg-Leesville, SC (via SC Highway 23).

Though Edgefield isn’t a large town in comparison to several other nearby towns, it has a unique history. Edgefield claims to be home to ten South Carolina governors, including Strom Thurmond, a SC governor, US senator and US presidential candidate who served in the US senate for 14 years and is the only US senator to reach the age of 100 while in office. Edgefield is also home to a number of local businesses, as well as Old Edgefield Pottery. The Edgefield pottery tradition stretches back 200 years, and historians suggest Edgefield is home to the first successful production of stoneware in the Southeast.
